WALLS & FRAMES: Book sleeves designed by herakut for Nyota project

Walls & Frames is a cutting-edge collection of recent work by young artists who are moving from the street into galleries. These ambitious talents are keeping their connection to the street alive while establishing themselves in the art market with work in traditional formats such as painting, sculpture, installation, and prints. To celebrate the release of Walls and Frames, the artists featured in the book have created original handmade book sleeves for the publication, which will be available for sale both at the London and Berlin events for 430£ and 500€ respectively…

The artist duo herakut agreed to participate in the feature if  the proceeds from their book sleeve designs were donated to the German non-profit charity organisation, “Nyota e.V. for children in Africa”. The volunteer run organisation runs a day care centre for orphans in Westrn Kenya. The book release parties take place on Thursday, 8th. December in London and on 15th December in Berlin (see below for details). See the 2 designed book sleeves by Herakut…

The book: WALLS & FRAMES | Fine Art from the Streets
Statements from each included artist as well as an insightful text by the curator Maximiliano Ruiz illuminate the context, working methods, and perspectives involved in this inspiring scene. Walls & Frames takes a detailed and authentic look at the intersection of young street art and contemporary art. Its fresh outlook appeals to those familiar with these developments and new to the scene as well as to a wide range of artists, collectors, gallerists, journalists, and designers… More infos about the book & ordering at the publishers page: Die Gestalten

The projects of Nyota e.V. – for Children in Africa
The projects of  the German grassroot initiative aims at providing a sustainable contribution within the development cooperation in Western Kenya. However, it is of particular importance to the small organization that the help that is provided contributes to the idea of “help for self-help”. Nyota considers education as a fundamental and important aspect that enables children and the community to leave the vicious circle of poverty. Through the work at the organization’s day care center and the subsequent submission to primary and sponsored secondary school the Nyota tries to achieve these goals. The Organic Green Garden Project is another project that will help to assure the permanent supply with the most important food for the children at the center. All donations are strictly forwarded to the projects in Kenya as all Nyota team members in Germany work free of charge. More information about the association and the projects can be found on the website nyota-ev.de

The foundation of the association Nyota in 2003 was the result of a primarily private project of the deceased founder Bärbel Kirschenlohr. She supported orphans in Kenya on a private base by providing school fees, food and medicine long time before the foundation of Nyota. Nyota is a Kiswahili word meaning star, a star as a symbol for hope…

If you also would like to make a contribution to the Nyota project please visit Nyota on betterplace.org
Also small donations will help!
