Write for Freedom

A Group of graffiti writers called "Write for Freedom" will contend against injustice with painting some walls on e tour through eastern europe.

Write for Freedom is a graffiti tour for human rights, in corporation with Amnesty International Czech, Montana Cans and the artist CHEMIS.

This project is by Dmitri Prolkin, also known as Chemis. His aim is to inform young Europeans (specially young ones), about the problems with human rights abuse. During a several week journey he will create 10 graffiti paintings. Chemis will be accompanied by a film crew, planning to stop in cities such as Cracow, Bucharest, Sophia, Belgrade, Budapest, Bratislava or Vienna.

"The main point of the project is speak to young people in a pleasant way and make them aware of world problems today and call on support from the wider public" says Chemis. At the same time he expects, that in the countries he will visit he will receive varying responses to the works.

"The younger generation of Europeans will be informed that they are in the position to affect change in the environment in which they live, therefore announcing project Write For Freedom, on."

Young creators can highlight topical problems concerning human rights according to their opinion. This is also an oppurtunity for them to act and fight for what they believe. Using Graffiti as the vehicle they can create motives addressing such issues as inequality for women, child abuse and the role of contemporary men in this issues. Thematic imagery will be created in large cities on legal public surfaces or set places.

We could write volumes about Human Rights abuse, but the situation will never change. People can not be afraid about stating their opinion. "Maybe through graffiti, they will be able to address many people," said AI Dála van der Horst, CEO of czech chapter.

The project will be documented all the way by the film crew and will be veiwable to the public in Czech republic and also abroad. "Now I am looking forward to moment of our project when we will be able to distribute photographs and documentation to the public, young people in schools, cinemas and galleries," says Chemis just before he started.

Team Write for Freedom, which has 3 members, is going to plan their departure on the 1st of July at 11:00 o'clock. They would like to invite all their supporters and also media representatives to meet at Palackého square in Prague at this time. The Team will ride in specially modified van that was painted in project colours and will carry all of the material needed for the creation of this graffiti production.
