Kings Way Book - a view inside

At first it seemed a strange notion to read that the book was written about the history of Graffiti in Melbourne Australia, from 1983 till 1993. Why not 1980 till 1995? It became very apparent that for this particular place, on an island far away, Graffiti as we know it exploded. This was the first documented generation of contemporary graffiti that would affect all generations there after.

Although a massive task to undertake, the authors have done it justice in giving a strong informed overview about this important period. Why not? They where there after all. As a reader and a participant in the era, many historical dots were connected and many unseen photo's have been presented publically for possibly the first time. A favourite part of this history is the unique contributions of Ron the train driver. Here was a man who drove trains and had a perfect birdseye view of what was new and who was up. He was even known to stop trains in mid traffic to jump and get a picture of the latest burner. Documenting all fascets of the culture, Kings Way has something for every graffiti, hip hop or art enthusiast. From powermoves, to full colour burners, walls to steel, DJ's to youth workers and of course the writers that helped make Australian Graffiti what it is today.
