Graffiti is "Hardcore"
Before there was Hip Hop culture and graffiti was considered as one of it's elements, there was only writers writing and whatever music you wanted to listen to. As times changed and Graffiti progressed, the bond between Graffiti and Hip Hop/Rap music grew stronger... Check what the man behind this project got to say after the jump:

Today it is undiniable the connection between the two, however there is a greater amount of variations of Graffiti culture that are not neccessarily related in any way to Hip Hop. We found one such example where Gym 921 from Germany has been extremely active fusing his love for Punk and Hardcore music, with his obsession with Graffiti.
I started the "graffiti is hardcore" project, because I live in two worlds. Writing Graffiti AND Hardcore/ Punkrock . Most people are into one youthculture. I was lucky enough to receive the great gift and the possibility to live in two or more youthcultures. First of all, I need to say that I'm a fan of great music. I don't care if it is rap, reggae, ska, thrash-metal or whatever. I have to feel it and if I do, then I know it's good! It’s like food, you have to taste many styles in music and art, otherwise it could soon be boring.
So, I love all music but after a while, it always leads me back to hardcore. Aspects of Hardcore like the text, make it the music I prefer the most. To me it's (almost) all positive and it's for the kids by the kids. It's true, it's real and everybody is welcome. No one excluded! It's also about commitment and dedication. It is often political, anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-homophobic and alround pro-life!
These are the things I try to live by. I have a circle of interesting friends that are not always connected with each other. I have friends that I go to concerts with and friends that I write with. I wanted to try connect these two worlds and create the connection through this project.
Anyone that says that there is no connection between these two cultures is wrong because I'm proof of just one example of where this is possible. I created my little world at Graffiti is hardcore to show people from both worlds, what it looks like on the other side and what you can do with a little effort.
On my page graffiti interested people, can take a look at the hardcore-scene and listen to
songs that have inspired me. I have the dream that some closed-minded people open up because they see my project and what I as a"reference". Like " Oh, that's Gym Project, I’ll check out what he is up to and see what this culture and music is all abbout". The other reason I started the whole thing is simple as writing itself. To paint. I do what a dedicated writer should do, communicating with letters (which I love), words and different combinations of the two. Writing
should be an everyday-battle with yourself. Push, push, push and strive to create something new and interesting!
The last reason is the most simple of all. It's cool to make people happy. I had so much great
feedback from bands and all these people that were just happy because someone spent some time to do something nice. That's the essence of everything. Stay true, be real, try to be a better person and have fun. The rest happens by itself.Peace
