Montana POLYSTYRENE PRIMER 400ml

The Montana Polystyrene Primer provides a perfect protection layer (base coat), for all nitro-combi and synthetic based paints and Montana GOLD. The primer seals the styrofoam and avoids destructive reaction of the lacquer. Always test before use on a non-visible area of the object. The drying time varies depending on temperature and humidity and may take a few hours.

FEATURES

- Blocking effect against decomposing solvent-based paints.

- Creates an adhesion layer for following layers of paint.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Shake can vigorously for 2-3 minutes before use. Apply POLYSTYRENE PRIMER in several thin layers, spraying in sweeping motions. Allow each coating to dry for at least 5 minutes. In the case of coarse-pored polystyrene, more layers are necessary; please make sure that all holes are closed so that no top coat can penetrate the polystyrene. Can be overpainted after 3 hours. Further coats of alternative products might require a drying time of 24 hours or more depending on application style. Always test spray on a non-visible area to check the compatibility of lacquer or paint. For optimal lifespan, store cans with the nozzle on.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should I use a primer?

The goal of priming is to create a neutral surface of which to apply other coatings onto that will have the longest possible lifespan and the most aesthetic finish as desired.Montana Primers are for the pre-treatment and preperation of surfaces and will offer the greatest adhesion and protection to apply further coatings onto.

When do I use Montana POLYSTYRENE PRIMER?

Montana POLYSTYRENE PRIMER is a surface preparer that can be used on polystyrene, styrofoam and other materials. The POLYSTYRENE PRIMER is ideal for preparing polystyrene, foams and construction foams for pre-treatment of applying color coatings. As some paints contain solvents, which penetrate and agitate foams. This can lead to damage and melting of your substrate. We suggest trialing on a non-visible area of your material to test for compatibility

How do I start using my Montana POLYSTYRENE PRIMER?

Remove the spray nozzle and turn the can upside down. Strike with your palm allowing safety ring to fall out. Shake vigerously for 2-3 minutes ensuring you can hear the mixing balls moving freely. Replace the cap back onto the top of the can valve and trigger away from substrate to test. If flowing freely you can start painting.

Which coatings can apply over the PLASTIC PRIMER?

You can apply any Montana-Cans color, tech or effect spray over the PLASTIC PRIMER once it has dried. It will increase adhession, help seal your substrate, create a more even surface and increase the longevity of the coatings applied over it.

What do I need to look out for when using my PLASTIC PRIMER?

PLASTIC PRIMER can seal the surface of most foams for the application of further coatings. It is important that you ensure that the complete surface of your foam is sealed leaving no pin holes or air openings. This avoids any solvents reaching the raw foam and agitating it. You can ensure complete sealing by applying multiple thin layers.

Why did my foam melt when I applied my PLASTIC PRIMER?

Due to the endless chemical possibilities that manufacturers of foams can use, PLASTIC PRIMER could penetrate low quality or poorly constructed foams if not compatible, applied too close, too quickly or not allowed to dry. We suggest trialing on a non-visible area of your material to test for compatibility

How long does Montana PLASTIC PRIMER spray take to dry?

Drying time is usually 15-20 minutes but can vary depending on the quality of the substrate, ambient temperature, humidity levels and thickness of coats applied.

Can I use other coutings on it other then sprays?

Yes. It is possible to use other coatings over PLASTIC PRIMER spray once it is dry. Please note applying solvent based coatings may aggitate the foam surface regardless of preperation. We suggest always test on a non-visible are of the work for compatibility.
