Product information "Montana PRIMER 400ml - Metal"

The Montana METAL PRIMER is the perfect tool for the job when you want to create a neutral surface of which to apply further coatings onto metal surfaces. With anti-oxidation properties to help resist the onset of rust, the METAL PRIMER has a matt finish and gives your metal project the longest possible lifespan, with the highest aesthetic results. Applying METAL PRIMER to your artwork or D.I.Y project will create the best possible adhesion and protection for further coatings like Montana GOLD, Montana BLACK or Montana WHITE range colors. The METAL PRIMER will also provide further protection against scratching and denting. The METAL PRIMER was developed for optimal pre-treatment of metal (Iron or brass) and mineral surfaces. Ensuring that your surface is clean, dry and free of all dust and oils before application will ensure that your Montana METAL PRIMER provides the ultimate base for further coatings. Further coating is possible with the Montana TECH, and Montana Cans color ranges. Smooth, even application is effortless thanks to the Montana FLAT JET CAP Medium, that comes standard on the can. For further application caps, why not try the FLAT JET WIDE, the FAT CAP GOLD/BLACK or any of the Montana LEVEL 1-3 caps. It is important to allow complete curing of the METAL PRIMER (24 hours or more), before applying further coatings. We suggest trialing on a non-visible area of your material to test for compatibility. Please note the Metal Primer is NOT suitable for priming aluminum and stainless steel.

USE: Apply primer in several thin layers spraying before the previous coat is fully dry, but with 1 or 2 minutes between each pass. Further coats might require a drying time of 24 hours or more depending on substrate. Always test spray on a non-visible area to check compatibility of lacquer or paint. For optimal lifespan, store cans always with the nozzle on.

FAQ
FAQ

When should I use a primer?

The goal of priming is to create a neutral surface of which to apply other coatings onto that will have the longest possible lifespan and the most aesthetic finish as desired. Montana Primers are for the pre-treatment and preparation of surfaces and will offer the greatest adhesion and protection to apply further coatings onto.

When do I use Montana PRIMER's?

Montana PRIMER’s are all-round surface preparers that can be used on plastics, metal, styrofoam, leather, cardboard, wood and many other materials. We suggest trialing on a non visible area of your material to test for compatibility

Which Montana PRIMER do I use when?

There are four different Montana PRIMER’s that can be used for different surfaces as listed below:

Montana PLASTIC PRIMER T2000:

To be used on some plastics and acrylic based surfaces. Clear colored spray. Montana PLASTIC PRIMER is a surface preparer that can be used on the following hard plastics: polyurethane (PUR), polystyrene (PS), polyamide (PA), polypropylene rubber, modified (EPDM), acrylic butadiene styrene plastics (ABS),
glass-fibre reinforced plastics (GfK), hard polyvinyl chloride (Hard-PVC). Always trial on non-visible area of your material to check for compatibility!

Montana POLYSTYRENE PRIMER T2200:

To be used on most polystyrene and styrofoam surfaces. Cream colored spray. Always trial on non-visible area of your material to check for compatibility!

Montana UNIVERSAL PRIMER T2300:

To be used on concrete, brick, terra-cotta, ceramic, leather, cardboard, wood and many other materials. White colored spray.

Montana METAL PRIMER T2400:

To be used on metal (iron or brass) or mineral surfaces. Dark-brown colored spray. Please note the Metal Primer is NOT suitable for priming aluminum and stainless steel.

How do I start using my Montana PRIMER?

Remove the spray nozzle and turn the can upside down. Strike with your palm allowing safety ring to fall out. Shake vigorously for 2-3 minutes ensuring you can hear the mixing balls moving freely. Replace the cap back onto the top of the can valve and trigger away from substrate to test. If flowing freely you can start painting.

Which coatings can apply over Montana PRIMER’s?

You can apply any Montana-Cans color, tech or effect spray over Montana PRIMER’s once they are dried and cured. They will increase adhesion, help seal your substrates, create a more even surface and increase the longevity of the coatings applied over it.

Can I sand it to my desired surface finish?

Yes. You can sand Montana PRIMER’s once they are dry. Depending on the grade of the sand paper, smooth or rough surfaces can be achieved.

How long do Montana Montana PRIMER’s take to dry?

Drying times vary due to the PRIMER and the context it is being used. They usually require 15-20 minutes to be dust dry. Curing time can vary depending on substrate, ambient temperature, humidity levels and thickness of coats applied.

Can I use other coatings on Montana PRIMER’s other then sprays?

Yes. It is possible to use other coatings over Montana PRIMER’s spray once they are cured. We suggest always test on a non-visible are of the work for compatibility.
